The “S” will tend to remain stable at speed, especially in crosswinds and when handling pressure waves from nearby traffic, because the rake and tail are both rather lengthy at 30 degrees and 5.8 inches, respectively. H-D® sticks to tradition by not reducing the steering geometry to boost agility, and it appears that nimble enough is agile enough.
At 28.9 inches off the surface, the seat height is just right. Dunlop Harley-Davidson® Series radials in a big 160/70-17 front and an even wider 180/70-16 out rear are mounted on cast wheels.
A four-bore caliper bites a 320 mm front disc, followed by a 260 mm disc and single-piston anchor. Still, the real star here is the Cornering-Enhanced Anti-lock Braking System, which comes standard.
A Revolution Max 1250T engine provides power, and the V-twin design is maintained at a wider angle than the typical 45-degree layout, offering an instant visual signal that this isn’t your grandfather’s Sportster®. The engine’s 105 mm bore and 72.3 mm stroke enables the engine’s high rpm and remarkable performance.
The variable valve timing feature, which deepens the torque well for a broad, tractable powerband, is another deviation from the standard, as is the use of dual overhead cams. Who can blame Harley-Davidson® for listing horsepower on this model? With 121 horsepower, this engine has a lot to talk about, especially considering the 94 pounds of torque, which peaks at 6,000 rpm but is widely available across the rev range.
